Meet Mary a 34 years old mother of 2 children

Mary is a 34 years old and a mother of 2 children; Sammy (14 years in class 7) and Lilian (9 years in class 3)

She is the first born in a family of 5. She was born and brought up in Nyahururu later in the year 2000 she got married in Molo -Nakuru county .Her husband is now 35 years. Six years after she got married her husband became violent physically, since then she knows no peace. Almost every night her husband would come home drunk, beat her up and chase her and the children at night. She used to take the children to her brother in law who was in their neighbourhood and because his house could not fit all of them, she would go back and sleep in the bathroom and wait for the morning. The bathroom was her refuge and she has slept there in the cold countless time.

Mary tried to talk to her mother in law because they stay in the same compound and always defended his son. Many times she has gone to the chief and village elders her husband promises to change but after 2 weeks it becomes even worse. Her husband could not allow her to work and she used to sneak out when her husband goes to work- he is a bus driver in a secondary school and go and do casual work so that she can earn some cash.

She bought herself a jacket and when her husband came in the evening and saw her wearing a new jacket, he demanded to know where it came from and Mary told her that there was a woman who sells clothes and she has been paying for it in bits, he became very furious and said that there must be another man who is buying things for her, he beat her up and took a panga swearing to kill her and cut her to pieces. He burnt all her clothes. Mary could not go back to her father’s house in nyahururu because her mother died when they were young and their father remarried, their step mother never cared for them and she can’t have a good job because she never even completed primary education.

She took her children and told them today all our troubles will be over, in her mind she had planned to buy poison mix it well and give her 2 children and when they die she drinks also. before that she called her aunt in Nakuru and told her there is no need to live, her aunty is one of our women from the fellowship (mama Tony) who told her not to kill herself and the children, she begged her to come to her house and she will take her somewhere where women who have reached their end go.
