What we do

What we do

AIMS

The primary aim is to provide practical, emotional, and mental health support to SGBV victims and young mothers in the community. We serve to reduce isolation and stigmatization by providing a peer supportive network. Particular attention is on sensitization on human rights especially women’s rights and awareness creation on early pregnancies. Working along with professionals in respective areas, we have achieved to have a holistic program that is impactful to society.

PROGRAMS

We offer arrays of holistic programs based on the following 4 main thematic areas:
• Parental confidence
• Mental health
• Future prospect
• Resilience

Parental Confidence

Under the theme of parental confidence, we’ve identified five subthemes in the interviews with YM and SGBV: transformed view of life; coping with stagnancy and stigma; self-compassion; maternal instinct; and societal perception versus internal perception. Parental confidence is defined as internal emotions and feelings about any
challenges faced; emotional strength; decision-making capabilities; and
coping skills.

Mental Health

The theme of mental health is discussed in interviews, and five subthemes have been identified: psychoeducation and coping skills;
person-centered approaches; self-care; peer support; and creative therapies. Mental health awareness and willingness to seek support is
categorized as a general feeling about one’s own mental health or self-reflective opinions about mental health and comfort discussing the
topic of mental health. The inclusion of topics related to mental health in the group has helped young mums and SGBV feel at ease to ask questions and get helpful advice from the facilitator. The normalization discussions around mental health within the peer-to-peer context provides a validating avenue for communicating about mental health:

Future Prospect

Under this theme, four subthemes have been identified: managing household budgets; economic empowerment; negotiating multiple
demands; and close, practical support. Future prospects are
defined as hopes about future education or employment.
The young mums felt that the topics covered in the YMT group that
concerned managing money are particularly helpful in supporting
them to manage household budgets. They can apply this learning to their own lives, and the young mums report that they become
autonomous in developing budgets:

Resilience

Under the last theme of resilience, there are four subthemes: determination to move forward; normalization; increased emotional
awareness; and coping with challenges. Resilience is defined as:
the ability to improve; to surmount and overcome challenges. It is
indicated by assurance in the self and in an individual’s response to
challenges faced, such as challenges related to parenting.
Participants’ inner drive is commonly referenced in the interviews. Young mums speak about having an unwavering sense of determination to move forward in all aspects of life.
This inherent sense of optimism was often passionately expressed:
