Planting a seed of love: Alice*

Alice* (not her real name) is an 18-year-old who became an adult a few months ago but what her neighbors did not know was that she was being defiled and assaulted day in and day out for over 5 months. She comes from Western Kenya and is a total orphan who used to live with her maternal aunt. She dropped out of school at form 2 due to lack of funds and got into a relationship with a boy from a different county who used to visit her hometown every now and then. She fell pregnant and her auntie kicked her out.

Desperation pushed her to seek employment as a house help and a friend of hers sent her transport to travel to Nairobi. Unfortunately, the money was not enough and she had to alight in Nakuru where she got stranded with no accommodation, no food, and no one to help. A “good samaritan” offered her shelter and promised to help her raise funds to travel to Nairobi for work. Little did she know that the person she thought rescued her would be the cause of her suffering for months on end without an ounce of mercy. Neighbors were keeping to themselves as they did not want to get involved because the man kept threatening them since he was in a known gang.

After a few months, Alice* was assaulted and severely injured and her pregnancy was 7 months. A brave neighbor informed a community volunteer who reported the issue to the chief who involved the police. The culprit fled and has been nowhere to be seen even on the day we got called to rescue and give Alice* shelter. She has had to go to the hospital to treat various infections and we are happy to say that she has healed physically and the journey to help her cope mentally has begun.
